BLOG 5: CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

Hello everyone, today I will tell you about the changes that could be made in my study program.

As you all know, I´m a second-year dental student at the University of Chile, which is a very demanding career that requires a lot of study.

The curriculum of the career is quite complete as it covers both public health and recreational branches such as sports. The truth is that I wouldn’t make any changes since I believe that it’s one of the universities that has a complete academic curriculum compared to other universities. However, I think it’s important to evaluate the academic load that is in each of the branches as they tend to exceed in this aspect without considering the mental health of the student.

As for the duration of the course, which is 6 years, I wouldn’t decrease or increase it, since it’s a health career in which we will later work with people, it’s extremely important to have a good theoretical and practical preparation, the truth is that 6 years are quite good.

Although our university is number 1 nationally in dentistry, it still lacks in several aspects, such as infrastructure, since the faculty is very small for the number of students it has. This is one of the aspects that most requires changes, since we have a dining room that isn’t enough, in fact, there are always people eating on the floor because the tables aren’t enough for everyone. They should also improve the parking lots; I have heard many complaints about this because there are too many people who come to the university by car for the number of parking spaces there are. Regarding the classrooms, these are fine, but they are too few, they should make more and last and most important, I think they should have a good internet.

The dental school is quite old and has been left behind in terms of technological advances, which are really important in our training but at the same time I think they give us a wrong vision of what will be later in the labor field in a public health system because it may be that while we study we have all the existing technology but perhaps later many times we will not have the material or instruments to treat our patients in hospitals.

Finally, the teaching method is efficient, but I think there are certain areas in which they should make changes to facilitate student learning.

Even when I applied to this university, I didn't analyze all these aspects hahahaha I think I did need to do it.
